Itinerary
Expand allDay 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Todgha
Depart Marrakech through the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Make a detour to Ait Ben Haddou, one of the best-preserved sites in southern Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit its kasbah, also used as a film location. Continue through Ouarzazate along the southern High Atlas on the Road of 1,000 Kasbahs to Boumalen. At the entrance to the Dades Valley, continue towards Tinghir and the Todgha Gorges.
Duration: Approximately 7 hours.
Overnight: Guesthouse.
Day 2: Todgha – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast, walk in the gorges and continue towards Tinghir, then across the Saharan plateaus towards Erfoud. Stop to see the Khottara, an ancient underground irrigation system that still functions in parts of southern Morocco. Have lunch in Rissani and try its Medfouna specialty, then continue to Merzouga. Cross the Erg Chebbi dunes by camel to the camp at the foot of the dunes. Enjoy tea, climb the highest dune for sunset, and have dinner outdoors around the fire.
Duration: Approximately 6 hours.
Overnight: Desert bivouac.
Day 3: Merzouga – Agdz – Marrakech
Climb the dunes at sunrise, have breakfast, and take a 4x4 back to Merzouga. Follow the southern Jebel Saghro via Alnif and Tazarine to the Draa Valley. Continue to Agdz, cross the Anti-Atlas via Ouarzazate, and return to Marrakech.
Duration: Approximately 10 hours.
End of tour: Marrakech.
