Itinerary
Expand allDay 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora
Travel through the Tizi n'Tichka pass and make a detour to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and film location. Continue through Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley, with its kasbahs, fields and date palms, to Zagora, a historic caravan meeting place. Approximately 7 hours. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 2: Zagora – Erg Chegaga
Travel to Mhamid via Tamegroute, known for its Quran library and green pottery. The landscape becomes increasingly desert-like, with oases and palm trees. A camel walk is possible at Ouled Driss. Continue by 4x4 across reg, tamarisk and small dunes to the great Chegaga dunes. Approximately 5 hours. Overnight in a nomad tent.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Marrakech
Start early for sunrise, then travel by 4x4 alongside the dry Irikki Lake to the oasis of Foum Zguid. Have lunch, then cross the Anti-Atlas through limestone folds and gorges via Taznakht and the Tizi n'Tichka pass back to Marrakech. Approximately 9–10 hours.
