Itinerary
Expand allDay 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Dades
Depart through the Tizi n'Tichka pass and experience the dramatic change of landscape as you descend south. Continue via Ouarzazate along the southern High Atlas and the Road of 1,000 Kasbahs to Boumalen Dades. Drive up the Dades Valley, with villages above cultivated fields. Approximately 6 hours. Overnight at a guesthouse.
Day 2: Todgha – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast, walk in the gorges and continue to Tinghir. Visit the Todgha Gorges, then cross the plateaus towards Erfoud. Stop at the Khottara, an ancient underground irrigation system. Have lunch in Rissani and try the Medfouna specialty, then continue to Merzouga. Cross Erg Chebbi by camel to the bivouac, enjoy tea and sunset, and have dinner around the fire. Approximately 6 hours. Overnight in a desert bivouac.
Day 3: Merzouga – Agdz – Ait Ben Haddou
Watch sunrise over the dunes, have breakfast, and take a 4x4 to Merzouga. Travel along the Jebel Saghro via Alnif and Tazarine to the Draa Valley. Continue to Agdz, cross the Anti-Atlas via Ouarzazate, and arrive at Ait Ben Haddou in the late afternoon. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best-preserved kasbahs in southern Morocco. Approximately 7 hours. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 4: Ait Ben Haddou – Telouat – Marrakech
Visit the kasbah in the morning and take photographs. After breakfast, travel up the Ounilla Valley, a former caravan route, to Telouat and the Glaoui Kasbah. Return to Marrakech through the Tizi n Tichka pass.
